Your first stop is at a local restaurant near the park's main lake, where you'll enjoy a relaxed lunch featuring regional flavors and a scenic lakeside atmosphere - an ideal way to fuel up for the hike ahead.
In the afternoon, we set off on a rewarding hike to one the highest peaks of the park. Covering 5,15 km, the trail offers breathtaking views and a satisfying challenge, with a moderate technical difficulty.
Along the way, you'll gain 519 meters in elevation, peaking at 1250m before descending back down to our starting point. The route is perfect for those looking for a perfect mix of effort and awe inspiring scenery.
After the hike, we head to our accomodation nestled in the park. You'll have some free time to relar, freshen up, or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Walking the Paths of Shepherds - A deeper connection to the mountains
We ease into the day with a delicious, energizing breakfast made from local ingredients - perfect fuel for the trail ahead.
Afterwards, we lace up our boots for a truly immersive day in the heart of Peneda Geres National Park.
Today's hike is not just a physical challenge; it's a journey through history, tradition and raw natural beauty.
We follow the ancient Transhumance Trail, used by the shepherds of Fafião to move their herds between summer and winter pastures.
This 18,7 Km loop is a demanding trek, with a technical difficulty rated as hard and nearly 1000 metres of elevation gain - but the effort is richly rewarded. The trail winds through dramatic mountain landscapes, past centuries-old shepherds shelters and across panoramic ridgelines that tell the story of a way of life that still echoes in the hills.
At midday, we pause for a picnic lunch high in the mountains, surrounded by silence and sweeping views. It's a moment to rest, refuel, and take in the spirit of the land.
In the late afternoon, back in Fafião, we take a relaxed walk around the village to learn about local culture and the traditions tied to the trail we just walked.
The evening is yours to rest or explore further before we gather again for dinner at a local restaurant, where you will taste more of the region's rustic flavors and reflect on an unforgettable day.

We start the day with a relaxing breakfast at the accomodation - fresh, local and nourishing - before heading out for our final adventure in the national park.
Today's hike is the Bread and Olive Oil Trail, a beautiful 5-kilmeter loop that weaves through Fafião's cultural and natural heritage. With moderate difficulty and a steady elevation gain, the path follows the course of the river, passes traditional mills and stone terraces, and offes incredible panoramic views that capture the essence of the region.
Along the way, you'll feel the harmony between nature and rural life, where history and landscape blend in quiet rhythmic.
We return to the village for lunch at a cozy local tavern, where savory, hearty food brings one last taste of Gerês to the table.
Before heading back to Porto, we make a final stop at one of the park's highest viewpoints—a breathtaking farewell to the mountains and memories made.

Ricardo was very informative, funny and genuinely felt like a new friend you’d want to have a beer with. He was passionate in explaining Portugal’s rich heritage and took us around the national park. We loved the waterholes he took us too. Also the restaurant he took us to for lunch was very good. This tour was a highlight for our trip in Porto!

Our day in the national park was very enjoyable -- mainly in part to our awesome guide, Luis. Luis was very personable and had a great deal of knowledge about the park and the local communities. The hikes were great, as were the views. Lunch was fantastic and we really enjoyed getting to meet some of the locals. Highly recommend! Perfect day trip from Porto!
