Eco-Friendly Travel: Small Choices, Big Impact

Eco-Friendly Travel: Small Choices, Big Impact

Sustainable Travel in Portugal: Where Adventure Meets Responsibility

These days, the environment is at the heart of many global conversations. What we consume, how we move, and where we travel – it all has an impact. As an adventure tourism company, we believe it’s our responsibility to tread lightly and preserve the natural beauty we’re so lucky to work in every day.

Most of our tours take place in the first and only national park of Portugal, established in 1971 – a truly special place. With this privilege comes the duty to protect it. That’s why we run our tours in small groups only. It’s better for the land, better for the wildlife, and better for your experience.

Our Choice of Transportation: Reuse Before You Renew

Now, if you’ve joined us before, you might have noticed something: we don’t drive electric vehicles. Instead, you’ll find yourself bouncing along rugged tracks in 4x4 Land Rover Defenders. But here’s the catch – we didn’t buy these new. Every single one has been rebuilt and restored by our mechanic of trust. They’re second-hand and given a new lease on life. For us, this is a more sustainable choice than purchasing brand-new vehicles that come with a heavy production footprint. Reusing and repurposing can sometimes be even greener than buying “green.”

Public Transportation in Porto: Start Your Eco-Trip the Smart Way

Even getting to us can be a sustainable part of your trip. If you’re staying in Porto, you’ll be happy to know that the city is very well connected by public transport. The metro, urban trains, and buses can get you around efficiently and comfortably. There are day-passes and monthly metro cards which you can use to make your trips even more affordable. These passes are available at one of the bigger train stations like Trinidade or São Bento. You can purchase normal tickets at every metro station (But don’t lose it. You can reload it for your next trip!). On the buses you can also always get a one way ticket in cash from the bus driver.

But the real magic? That happens on the water.

Eco-Friendly Adventures: Kayaking, Rafting & Nature Tours

Our kayaking and rafting tours – whether in the serene lakes of Gerês or down the stunning Douro River – are where eco-friendly travel comes alive. No motors, no fumes. Just the sound of your paddle slicing through the water and the wind in the trees. These tours allow us to move through untouched nature with minimal impact, preserving the peace and biodiversity of these pristine places.

Eating Sustainably: From Farm to Table

And of course, sustainability doesn’t stop at transportation. It’s also on your plate. During our tours, we proudly serve locally sourced food – seasonal ingredients from nearby farmers, traditional Portuguese dishes, and even homemade treats from local families. This not only supports the community but also helps reduce the carbon footprint of your meal. Plus, it tastes amazing – fresh, simple, and made with love.

Why Sustainable Travel Matters

Sustainable travel doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s about thoughtful choices, local awareness, and a deep respect for the natural world. Whether you're gliding silently through the water, sharing a home-cooked meal, or riding through the hills in a jeep with a story, you're taking part in a different kind of adventure – one that leaves the landscape just as wild as we found it.
